Granddaughters of God by Jerusha Samuel

I read a quote once that said our artwork is God's grandchildren. I employ painting in order to process what it means to be female in this world, and as a result the majority of my subjects are girls and women. I explore what I consider to be the sacredness of experiencing womanhood, but I also venture into the dark margins of femininity that we are pushed into as "the weaker sex." Lately I have been focusing on the beauty and diversity that exists in us, and have been celebrating the vast beauty that is our hearts and minds, reflected in our different skin, hair, bodies, and voices.
