In 2013, the Sorenson Unity Center began working on a neighborhood asset mapping project in partnership with University Neighborhood Partners, Utah Community Data Project, University of Utah Family and Consumer Studies, and the Glendale Mountain View Community Learning Center. With the goal of providing policy makers and service providers with a better understanding of key assets in West Salt Lake, we worked with a University of Utah Family and Consumer Studies class to gather information from nearly 60 different organizations about 370 different programs and services in the neighborhood. Additionally, several focus groups of residents were asked questions about their perspective on resources, assets and needs in the community. A brief summary of this information has been broken down by category and included in a report released in September 2014 (see entire document below).
The Salt Lake Asset Map Project is ongoing, with current efforts to map the neighborhoods of Northwest Salt Lake and Central City. Stay tuned for the updated asset map soon!
